At AsiaWorld-Expo we care about the world we all share, and we are committed to the very highest standards of eco-friendly operations. We apply these standards to every aspect of our business, and collaborate with our partners, event organisers, and visitors to treasure and protect the environment together.
As a member of the Airport Community, AsiaWorld-Expo supports the Hong Kong International Airport Decarbonisation Roadmap, committed to achieving Net Zero Carbon by 2050. Our efforts have been recognised with the ESG Award accredited by the Chinese Manufacturers' Association of Hong Kong.
We don’t think it is enough to merely minimise harm to the environment, we need to create a positive good. To minimise energy consumption, we adopted skylights at most public circulation areas to increase the usage of natural lights. At the same time, we fitted Solar Film to our skylights to reduce the interior temperature so as to minimise energy used for cooling. We have also cut further energy use with independent lighting, and LED lights. And we have installed Water-Cooled Chillers, a Thermal Storage Plant and Air Handling Units to optimise the efficiency of our air-conditioning system.
We have long established a positive green culture throughout our operations. This includes everything from fostering superior Indoor Air Quality, to cutting paperwork through digitalisation, and constantly monitoring the efficiency of our operations with IoT technology. We also participate in campaigns such as Earth Hour, offer tailor-made Ocean-friendly menus for banquets, and we were the first venue in the Hong Kong MICE industry to recycle wood, used cooking oils and leftovers.
We encourage our staff to turn green ideas into action with programmes like Green Mondays which provides complimentary fruit to all staff and Vegetarian Menus to promote healthy and low-carbon diets. We also provide reusable tableware, biodegradable meal boxes, and extensive recycling bins to raise our awareness on environmental protection.
We collaborate with our business partners, event organisers and visitors to enable the “3Rs” – Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. We donate fresh and uncooked food to the needy through Food Angel, a local food bank. And we have extensive recycling bins throughout the venue. We have a no straw policy, use biodegradable meal boxes and cutlery at our mega trade shows and offer discounts to encourage staff and visitors to bring their own cups and dining utensils. We also use Stack Cups during large scale public events which visitors can refill to enjoy discounts.
We will continue to launch more environmental protection measures in the future, increase our contribution to the environment and be a role model for the industry. We not only want to be a green venue but also a green partner.
