A dazzling new showcase of “A Journey Through Springtime Along the River” will be held at AsiaWorld-Expo (AWE) this summer, marking the first time that this extraordinary exhibit will be showcased outside the Forbidden City in Beijing. A superb new integration of art, culture, and technology, this landmark exhibition offers a fun and immersive experience of one of China’s most renowned artworks, and decodes it in inspirational ways that are sure to delight visitors of all ages. An unmissable highlight of the summer vacation, this major event will be supported by MTRC with free rides for children and special offers for adults on the Airport Express.
An animated version of the world-famous Chinese painting “Along the River During the Qingming Festival” was showcased at AWE nine years ago. Now, a spectacular new upgraded version is coming to AWE in a unique exhibition from 26 July to 25 August 2019. This one-month exhibition comprises several parts, including “The Heyday Scroll”, an ultra-high-definition projection of an animated scroll painting that mirrors the original masterpiece. It took more than 20 painters over 400 days to complete this monumental drawing, which is five metres high and more than 30 metres long. Their meticulous artistry has enlarged the original picture, while at the same time retaining all the brushstrokes and masterful techniques of the original painting. Another must-see component of the exhibition is “The Bian River Harbour”, a 180° spherical display that features the Bian River from dawn till dusk using a long-take film technique. Visitors view this mesmerising panorama on reclined chairs, creating the impression that they are floating along the river.
The exhibition also includes “Open City” and “Song Dynasty Park”, both of which are premiering in Hong Kong. Song Dynasty Park is an interactive zone for kids and adults where they can travel back in time to the Song Dynasty to learn about its culture in fun new ways, including games.
The 4,000-square-metre exhibition area is three times larger than the original one at the Forbidden City in Beijing. The high ceiling and spacious column-free design of the hall at AWE provides exceptional flexibility for curating a one-of-a-kind experience, and has allowed the organiser to present the story in a dynamic new way.
To make it easier for everyone to come and enjoy the exhibition, AWE is cooperating with MTRC to offer an Airport Express promotion. During the event, kids can enjoy a free round-trip, while seniors will get 50% off Octopus fares for a round-trip when using the same Octopus to start their Airport Express journeys from Hong Kong, Kowloon or Tsing Yi Stations and travel to and from AWE Station on the same day. Special fare concessions are also available for adults. The same-day return fare between Tsing Yi and AWE Stations is just HK$47 (including the connecting MTR journey via Tsing Yi Station). There is even an MTR Fare Saver located at AWE. Simply wave an Adult Octopus over the reader on the machine to enjoy a HK$2 discount on the next ride from Tung Chung Station. Visitors can also take the point-to-point express bus route No. X1, which operates between AWE and Tung Chung on Saturdays and Sundays.
